Xiaomi is no doubt a popular brand around the World; they have not disappointed with the release of the Redmi 5 Plus. It is really amazing considering that it was only founded in 2010. They offer premium devices at budget amounts and the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is a great offering. I have been using this Redmi device for the past 6 months and this is my take on it.
The Redmi series focuses on people on a budget while offering stunning specs for its price category. It sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. The camera is a 12MP f/.2.2 rear main shooter. It runs on Xiaomi's MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
A. MAIN SPECIFICATIONS AT A GLANCE
• 5.99 inch IPS display, with FHD+ Resolution of 1080 x 2160p
• A Snapdragon 625 processor, an octa-core processor up to 2.0Ghz
• 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage (or 3GB, 32GB storage)
• 4000mAh non-removable Battery
• GPU is the Adreno 506
• MIUI 10 based on Android Oreo (8.1)
• 12MP rear shooter with 5MP front shooter
The overall build of the Camon 11 Pro is sturdy. It has a unibody metal (aluminium) design. Its weight stands at 180g. Dimensions are at 158.5 x 75.5 x 8.1 mm. It also sports a capacitive always on rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Below the 12MP shooter lies the flash sensor for enhanced night shots. A handy feature is the IR Blaster which can be used to control all media devices such as TVs, A/Cs, etc.
The Redmi 5 Plus is powered by the Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 based on the 14nm FinFET production process. This should be capable of everyday tasks and casual gaming.
Onboard storage is 64GB (the lower variant has 32GB) which can be expanded by using an SD card up to 256Gb. This should be ok for media storage. The ram is 3-4 GB combined with the Adreno 506GPU which will handle all heavy apps and games at low frame settings.
The Redmi 5 Plus comes with dual sim support. 4G LTE can be enabled on both slots. WiFI is included with 2.4GHz/5GHz support together with Bluetooth 4.2. The 3.5mm headphone jack is retained, and this is good news. Unfortunately, the phone still uses a micro USB.
