The much-awaited Facebook Messenger's Dark Mode feature is now available for everyone worldwide. In the past, users needed to send a moon emoji to any of their contacts to activate the feature.
This followed a post by Facebook stating that Facebook Messenger's dark mode provided lower brightness while maintaining contrast and vibrancy. It also said that dark mode will cut down the glare from your phone for use in low light situations.
Previous rollouts of this feature began in early March as an Easter Egg, though it wasn't available to users in all regions. To activate the Dark Mode feature at that time, Facebook Messenger users had to send the crescent moon emoji to someone using the app.
Thankfully, the setting has now been added to the Messenger interface. Enabling this feature is now easy. You merely need to tap on your profile picture in the Messenger app to get to the main settings menu. The Dark Mode setting is located on the main menu. Tap to enable, and the whole interface will change to black.
